Tools required

  • Table Saw
  • Sandpaper
  • Tape measure
  • Drill
  • Wood glue

Materials required

  • Plywood
  • Edge banding
  • Studs
  • Screws

Instructions

  1. Find out where the cabinet will be placed and get the measurements for the area. Also, have an idea of how many items will be stored in the cabinet. For this article, we will use 34½ inches and 24 inches for the height and length of the cabinet respectively.
  2. Purchase the type of wood you would like to use to make the cabinet. When purchasing the wood, seek advice from an expert at the hardware store. Buy the hinges and handles/knobs for the cabinet doors. Inform them of what you are building and ask them the best choices to make in terms of building materials.
  3. Use the tape measure to make sure the size of the board pieces is accurate. Use 48 * 96 inches of plywood sheets to make the cabinet. Buy edge banding and cover the edges with it.
  4. Use the table saw and cut out the pieces for the cabinet. The size should be 34½ by 24 inches for each sheet. In this article, we will cut out the top and bottom pieces by 24 inches in depth and width of choice. Also, cut out the stud pieces and then install them into the area where the cabinet will go.
  5. Use sandpaper to smooth off all the wood surfaces.
  6. Band the side of your choice, but don’t band the side that’s 24 inches in length. Make holes with the drill and take a 1½ inch screw and fasten all the pieces together. Then use wood glue to reinforce the cabinet.
  7. Put in the shelves using the drill, screws, and nails. Use the table saw and cut out the doors. When making the doors, make it at a length so that it overhangs the front frame of the cabinet.
  8. Paint and stain all the components of the cabinet piece. Add a coat of polyurethane to complete it and allow it to dry.
  9. Install the hinges. Place the knobs/handles into the cabinet doors and then connect them to the hinges. And there you have your cabinet.
