How to Build a Waterwheel Pump

A waterwheel pump uses the water current to pump water (as the name suggest) to create energy. This energy can be used for various things such as cutting wood and grain or delivering clean water to areas that didn’t have proper water facilitates. Follow these instructions to make a waterwheel pump that you can utilize.

Tools required

  • Hammer
  • Tape measurement
  • Protractor
  • Saw

Materials required

  • Skewer
  • Wooden planks
  • Wood glue
  • Nails
  • Buckets

Instructions

  1. Decide how big you would like your waterwheel pump to be and the location which has a proper and constant flow of running water.
  2. Use the saw and the board and cut out two triangular shapes and a supporting beam from it to the desired height of the plan. Design the stand for the water wheel pump using two large triangles and the supporting beam. Use the supporting beam to stabilize the two triangles and make grooves so the water wheel can fit in.
  3. Make the paddles for the waterwheel pump by drawing a straight line 2 inches from the border of the plank and divide it into 10 equal parts. Draw two circles with the protractor into the paddles. It is at the center of the circles that the axle will connect the two sections of the waterwheel.
  4. Next it is time to make the paddles by placing them at a 40 degree angle from the two halves of the water wheel. Fix the paddles in place with the use of the glue and put the skewer through the two sides if the water wheel.
  5. Attach the water wheel to the stand and then join buckets to the axle of the water wheel so the wheel can pump water.

Tips and Warning

  • Make the stand of the waterwheel pump strong enough to support the wheel.
  • You may have to consult different professionals to assist you in putting everything together. These are a sunroom contractor, electricians, plumbers, carpenters etc.
  • Test the waterwheel pump before you use it to make sure it working properly.
