How to Build a Home Theatre

Going to the cinema to watch a movie is always a blast, but having a movie theatre at home can make the experience much warmer especially if friends and family are invited over. With some patience and a few gadgets from the electronic store, you can have your very own theatre right in your home. Just follow these instructions and source the lists of tools.

Tools required

  • Drill
  • Stud finder
  • Tape measure

Materials required

  • Drywall screws
  • Projector
  • Seats
  • Receiver
  • Surround sound speakers
  • Cables (jacks)

Instruction

  1. Choose a big room to place your home theatre. The room should be able to comfortably fit anywhere between 10 – 15 persons at a time, including TV and an entertainment centre.
  2. The room should then be insulated so that when movies are being played surrounding persons are not affected by the noise.
  3. Think about how big you would like screen to be, by making notations of its location and size. The sizes normally range from 16:9, 4:3 up to the widest format which is 2:35:1 ratio.
  4. Purchase the projector, which can be found in any electronic store in at a mall or shopping centre near you. The screen size will also determine how far the projector will be mounted. This information will be provided in the manual for the projector. Try purchasing the projector before putting up the screen to be certain of the screen size you’re dealing with.
  5. Place the projector on a shelf where it can project properly onto the screening.
  6. Go through a selection and buy the screen for your home theatre. Use the tape measure to figure out where on the wall these dimensions might be for the screen. Then mount it on the wall with the use brackets. The brackets are held in place by using the drill to insert the 2 inch drywall screws and the stud finder.
  7. Get the proper chairs for a home theatre and have them installed and aligned in proper seating order.
  8. Secure that the eye level aligns with the screen, so the viewers will have the best view possible. A nice way to calculate this is to take away 1/3 of the screen height from your eye height when sitting. This represents the height of the bottom of your screen. You can then ass the screen height to that to get the top of the screen measurement if you would like.
  9. Setup and connect all your components such as the DVD player, receiver, surround sound speakers and projector with all the necessary cables. Then calibrate the projector.
